V.F. Corporation reported strong Q1 FY2025 earnings, exceeding both revenue and earnings expectations. V.F. Corporation has announced the sale of Supreme for $1.5 billion, easing solvency concerns and enabling repayment of both upcoming debt maturities. The appointment of Sun Choe as Vans president, along with successful new products and marketing campaigns, makes the case for a potential second-half inflection point for Vans.

Small caps that were once large are optimal in this environment for a small cap trade in my opinion. Despite challenges, some companies like Leggett & Platt and VF Corporation are working on turnaround stories and are cutting costs while reducing debt. Debt burdens are a concern, but rate cuts may provide some assistance in navigating small cap purgatory.

V.F. Corporation's Q1 2025 results continue to show challenges, with some signs of improvement, but still significantly down. The sale of Supreme for $1.5 billion was necessary to reduce solvency risk, but it will not be accretive to earnings. V.F. Corporation now faces much smaller solvency risks, but the stock is not attractive for investing purposes, as it already embeds significant optimist expectations.

V.F. Corporation stock surged 7% following the Q1 fiscal 2025 earnings announcement. VFC stock is now up 60% from its 52-week low. In this update, I will discuss VFC's latest quarterly results, focusing in particular on earnings adjustments and the performance of its core brands. I'll explain why I can't quite understand the market's positive reaction to what I believe was another rather weak earnings report.
