Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) will start testing search and shopping ads in its AI-generated answers in the U.S., aiming to extend its dominance beyond traditional search advertising. The ads will appear in a 'sponsored' section within AI Overview based on query relevance and information, the company announced in a blog post.

Google's move to integrate AI into its search engine is part of a broader strategy to boost ad sales, a major revenue source. In Q1, Google reported a 13% increase in advertising sales, reaching $61.7 billion. The company continues to test new ad formats and gather feedback from advertisers.
