Airbus has cautioned its airline customers that aircraft delivery delays will persist for the next three years as it strives to clear a backlog caused by ongoing supply‑chain constraints. At a recent customer event in Toulouse, the manufacturer indicated that jets scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028 could face delays of up to six months.

Supply‑Chain Headwinds and Production Targets

Despite its goal to ramp A320neo family output to 75 jets per month, Airbus admits that component shortages—particularly in seating, landing gear, and avionics—are slowing progress. Sources report that Airbus is issuing periodic notices of delay “in piecemeal fashion,” leaving airlines to continually adjust their fleet‑planning schedules.

Order Backlog and Financial Implications

Airbus's extensive order book underscores the scale of the challenge: as detailed in its latest 10‑K, the company had over 8,000 aircraft on backlog at the end of 2024. Stakeholders can review these figures via FMP's Annual Reports API, which provides direct access to Airbus's MD&A disclosures on order volumes and delivery schedules.

Credit Profile and Investor Confidence

Maintaining liquidity while funding production scale‑up is critical. Airbus enjoys an investment‑grade rating, reflecting steady cash flows and government support for aerospace programs. You can verify Airbus's credit standing and key financial metrics using FMP's Company Rating & Information API, which shows Airbus holding a solid A‑level rating and healthy cash reserves to navigate near‑term disruptions.

With no immediate improvement in sight, airlines are bracing for continued schedule adjustments. Airbus's ability to work closely with suppliers—and to secure alternate sources for critical components—will determine how quickly it can restore timely deliveries and meet its ambitious production targets.
