EyePoint (NASDAQ: EYPT) Stock Plummets on Disappointing DURAVYU Trial Results for Wet AMD

  • EyePoint (NASDAQ: EYPT) faced a significant setback as its DURAVYU treatment failed to meet the primary endpoint in a Phase 3 trial for wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), leading to a sharp stock price decline and a reduced price target from Citigroup.
  • Despite not meeting the primary endpoint in wet AMD, DURAVYU showed some vision improvement and a notable reduction in treatment burden, with 38% fewer additional treatments needed.
  • In response to the trial results, EyePoint is refocusing its resources on the DURAVYU program for diabetic macular edema, implementing a 53% workforce reduction, and anticipating Phase 3 results in late 2027.

EyePoint (NASDAQ: EYPT) is a drug developer focused on eye diseases. Its DURAVYU treatment is in late-stage trials for diabetic macular edema, a condition that can damage vision. Citigroup maintains its Buy rating, but cuts its price target to $4.00 from $17.00, as highlighted by TheFly. Shares trade at $0.52 when the update is posted.

The lower target follows results from EyePoint’s Phase 3 LUCIA trial in wet age-related macular degeneration. DURAVYU does not meet the trial’s main goal: showing that its effect on vision is not meaningfully worse than aflibercept, the treatment used for comparison. Patients receiving DURAVYU still show vision improvement.

EyePoint reports that DURAVYU reduces treatment burden by 38%, meaning patients need fewer additional treatments. Through Week 56, 52% of eyes need no supplemental treatment, while 71% need no more than one. The company also reports favorable safety results with repeat dosing.

Following the trial results, EyePoint shifts resources toward its DURAVYU program for diabetic macular edema. Its board approves a plan to cut the workforce by approximately 53% and end its Phase 3 wet AMD trials early. Results from two Phase 3 diabetic macular edema trials remain expected in the fourth quarter of 2027.

In a separate market snapshot, shares trade at $0.48, down $2.51, or 83.80%. The day’s range is $0.48 to $0.60, against a 52-week range of $0.48 to $19.11. Trading volume reaches 64.90 million shares, and EyePoint’s market capitalization is approximately $40.60 million.
