Fifth Third Bancorp (NYSE: FITB), a regional bank, reported its third-quarter results before the market opened on October 19, 2026.
Net income available to common shareholders was $828 million, or $0.90 per diluted share under generally accepted accounting principles. After excluding $0.23 per share in items related primarily to the Comerica integration, litigation and technology asset impairments, adjusted earnings were $1.13 per share. That exceeded the Zacks consensus estimate of $1.09.
Total revenue on a fully taxable-equivalent basis was $3.28 billion, slightly below the $3.34 billion consensus estimate. Adjusted earnings increased from $0.93 per share a year earlier. However, GAAP diluted earnings edged down from $0.91 per share, partly because the number of outstanding shares increased following Fifth Third's acquisition of Comerica (NYSE: CMA).
Average core deposits rose 3% from the previous quarter to approximately $235.6 billion. The period-end loan-to-core-deposit ratio improved to 76% from 77%, indicating that the bank continues to fund its lending activities primarily through customer deposits.
Net charge-offs totaled $139 million, equivalent to an annualized 0.31% of average loans and leases. Fifth Third also reported strong client and employee retention through the Comerica conversion, although investors should continue monitoring credit quality and integration expenses.
Before the earnings release, third-party market data placed Fifth Third's trailing price-to-earnings ratio at approximately 17 times earnings. Because valuation ratios change with the share price and updated earnings data, investors should confirm the latest figure before using it for investment decisions.
