Kroger (NYSE: KR) Price Target Raised by Deutsche Bank on Strategic Growth Initiatives

  • Deutsche Bank has increased its price target for Kroger (NYSE: KR) to $70.00 from $68.00, implying a 10.70% upside from its current share price.
  • Kroger plans significant strategic growth initiatives, including a $5 billion customer-value push and the opening of 110 new stores by 2029.
  • The company aims for approximately 3.00% comparable sales growth by fiscal 2029 and intends to self-fund its three-year earnings plan through its own operations.

Kroger (NYSE: KR) operates grocery stores and sells food online, competing with Walmart and other major retailers. Deutsche Bank analyst Krisztina Katai raises her price target for the stock to $70.00 from $68.00. Against the $63.21 share price when the update is posted, that target implies about 10.70% upside.

The higher target comes as Kroger sets out plans to speed up sales and earnings growth. At its 2026 investor update, the company outlines a $5 billion customer-value push and plans for 110 new stores through 2029, as highlighted by MarketBeat.

Kroger also plans to expand e-commerce, update its operations and cut costs. It targets approximately 3.00% comparable sales growth in fiscal 2029, excluding fuel and pharmacy. Comparable sales measure growth at established stores, helping show whether the existing business is selling more.

CEO Greg Foran says Kroger wants to improve store execution and make promotions simpler. He acknowledges inconsistent customer experiences, rising costs and investments that have not delivered expected returns: “We lost share. We own that.” Kroger says its three-year earnings plan is self-funded, meaning it aims to pay for the changes through its own operations, as highlighted by The Wall Street Journal.

In the later trading snapshot, Kroger is at $63.31, up $0.33, or 0.52%. The stock trades between $62.63 and $63.80 during the day.
