Vietnam's budget carrier VietJet has inked a deal for 20 additional A330neo wide-body jets, doubling its pending order book to 40 aircraft as it charts ambitious expansion across the Asia-Pacific and eyeing future routes to Europe.
By selecting Airbus's fuel-efficient A330neo, VietJet aims to:
Boost medium- and long-haul capacity beyond its existing narrow-body network.
Lower per-seat operating costs, leveraging the neo's improved fuel burn and maintenance cycles.
Support a decade of growth, with deliveries staggered to match rising passenger demand.
Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao noted the deal “will continue to support VietJet's global flight network expansion,” while Airbus executive Wouter van Wersch hailed the A330neo as the airline's “wide-body aircraft of choice.”
Adding wide-body jets shifts revenue dynamics towards higher-yield long-haul routes. Investors tracking how this fleet upgrade may alter VietJet's revenue mix can tap the Revenue Product Segmentation API for detailed breakdowns of short-haul versus long-haul income streams.
Meanwhile, the market's reaction to past fleet expansion announcements is visible through the Earnings Historical API, which captures VietJet's EPS and revenue surprises around major capex decisions—helpful context as analysts model the long-term earnings impact of these 40 neo deliveries.
VietJet's bold A330neo commitment underscores its pivot from pure low-cost, short-haul operations to a hybrid model that can unlock new markets and diversify revenue—key as U.S.-Vietnam trade talks and regional competition reshape Southeast Asia's aviation landscape.
