Market News
  • Stryker (NYSE: SYK) faces a reduced price target from Truist Financial due to ongoing manufacturing issues, despite its strong market position in medical devices.
  • A significant stock drop on September 8, 2026, wiped out over $10 billion from its market value, highlighting investor concerns over operational risks.
  • Despite the pullback, Seeking Alpha upgraded Stryker to "Strong Buy," citing robust sales growth, solid demand, and a substantial backlog of equipment orders as key drivers for future earnings per share growth.

Stryker (NYSE: SYK) makes medical devices and equipment used in surgery and hospital care. It competes with other large medical technology companies for hospital spending. Truist Financial sets a $310.00 price target for Stryker, down from $340.00. At the $280.23 share price when the target is posted, the new target is about 10.6% higher.

The lower target comes as investors weigh Stryker’s growth against risks to its operations. Stryker falls $26.70, or 8.8%, on September 8, 2026, after its chief financial officer says a manufacturing issue previously thought to be resolved is still affecting the company. The drop removes more than $10 billion from its market value.

The pullback also makes the shares look more attractive relative to their past valuation, as highlighted by Seeking Alpha. Its analysis upgrades Stryker to Strong Buy after the price reaches $275.00. It points to sales growth across regions and business segments, solid demand, and a backlog of equipment orders that have not yet been filled.

That analysis identifies Mako robotic-assisted procedures, growth in ambulatory surgery centers, and Smart Care platform integration as reasons earnings per share could grow at a double-digit rate. Separately, Hagens Berman is investigating whether Stryker adequately disclosed the manufacturing issue. An investigation does not establish wrongdoing; it adds another risk for investors to consider alongside the $310.00 target.
